Earlier this year, I came up with a chocolate calzone, using a filling of ricotta cheese and chocolate chips. I brushed the dough with a lot of butter (before and after baking) and served with powdered sugar, chocolate chips and chocolate syrup.

Calzones and cannolis are both traditional Italian recipes, but that is all they have in common. Calzones are usually served as a main dish.

Some people call calzones a pizza turnover. If you like the idea of pizza dough folded over the ingredients, you may like a calzone.
